Dr. Moore is a firm believer that
the dentist-patient relationship is one of mutual trust and
respect, one of honesty and integrity, and one where the
dentist's role is to inform the patient of his/her options and
the patient's role is to decide on the best course of action.
Dr. Moore sees his role as not just focused on teeth, but
instead as an integrated health professional who is involved in
treating the whole person behind the teeth. Dr. Moore works
closely with other health care professionals including medical
doctors, dentists, ear, nose and throat specialists,
neurologists, chiropractors, massage therapists, physical
therapists and other members of the medical and dental
community, to help meet the individual needs of each patient.
This "patient-first" philosophy has always been
central to Dr. Moore's practice.
Dr. Moore's care and skill are
well known and respected in Peterborough and the surrounding
area. Dr. Moore has been interviewed by local media on numerous
occasions, appearing in local newspapers and on television.
Dr. Moore treats a wide diversity
of patients, from those who only need regular check-ups to some
who have severe breakdown of their masticatory (chewing) system.
He has allowed many people with a deep-seated fear of dental
work to gradually gain confidence in his care, helping them keep
their teeth for a lifetime. Through extensive continuing
education, Dr. Moore has remained on the cutting edge of dental
technology and techniques, allowing him to meet the needs of all
of his patients.
Dr. Moore treats many patients
who suffer from TMD (jaw joint pain). Often symptoms such as
headaches, ear aches, neck aches, dizziness, fainting, pain
behind the eyes, difficulty swallowing, clicking and locking jaw
can be related to jaw problems. In many cases, the lower jaw is
not in the correct position in relation to the upper jaw, which
causes muscle spasms and pain. Treating TMD also involves
exploring the issues of snoring and sleep apnea, two serious
health problems today. While snoring may irritate a spouse and
adversely affect a marriage, it may also be a sign of a more
serious condition, sleep apnea. Sleep apnea, which occurs when
the patient stops breathing while sleeping, can cause problems
including increased blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes.
Orthodontics is also a big part
of Dr. Moore's practice. If children display improper skeletal
relationships of the upper and lower jawbones, Dr. Moore uses
safe, effective appliances that can alter jaw growth. Known as
"Functional Therapy", conditions such as narrow upper
jaws and underdeveloped lower jaws are treated to optimize how
the teeth come together. Functional appliances guide the growth
of recessive (underdeveloped) chins to allow for consistent and
safe movement forward while the patient is still growing. This
is preferable to waiting until all the permanent teeth erupt and
surgically moving the lower jaw forward. Once the arches are
developed and all the permanent teeth erupt, braces may be
utilized to straighten the teeth.
Dr. Moore's professional life has
been and continues to be dedicated to treating patients using
the most ethical, modern, painless techniques available to
dentistry today.
